Your Guide to Staying Safe & Healthy in the Skies

Traveling by airplane can be an exciting experience, but it’s important to prioritize your health and safety while soaring above the clouds. Whether you’re a frequent flyer or an occasional traveler, these Jet Set Wellness tips will help you stay safe and healthy, ensuring your journey is as enjoyable as it is safe.

Stay Hydrated

Airplane cabins have very low humidity levels, which can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of water before and during the flight. Avoid alcohol and caffeine as they can exacerbate dehydration.

Move Around

Sitting in the same position for hours can increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Stretch and move around every couple of hours. Perform simple exercises like ankle circles or shoulder rolls right in your seat.

Eat Light & Healthy

Opt for light, nutritious meals before and during your flight. Heavy meals can make you feel lethargic and uncomfortable. Packing healthy snacks like nuts or fruit can be a great alternative to in-flight meals.

Use Sanitizers

Airports and airplanes can be breeding grounds for germs. Carry hand sanitizer and use it regularly, especially before meals. Consider wiping down your tray table, armrests, and seat belt with disinfectant wipes.

Dress Comfortably

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and layers to adapt to changing cabin temperatures. Compression socks can help promote circulation and reduce the risk of DVT.

Monitor Your Health

If you’re feeling unwell before a flight, consider rescheduling. Flying with a serious illness can exacerbate your condition and expose others to potential health risks.

Stay Rested

Adequate sleep is vital for your immune system. Try to get a good night’s sleep before your flight. If you’re on a long-haul flight, use earplugs, an eye mask, and a neck pillow to help you sleep better.

Be Mindful of Cabin Pressure

Changes in cabin pressure can affect your body. Yawning, swallowing, or chewing gum during takeoff and landing can help equalize ear pressure. If you have sinus issues, consider using a nasal spray before the flight.

Pack a Health Kit

Carry a small health kit containing essentials like pain relievers, antacids, motion sickness pills, and any prescribed medications.

Choose Your Seat Wisely

If possible, choose a seat away from the toilets as they are high-traffic areas with more germs. Window seats are generally a good option as you have control over the air vent and less contact with passing passengers.

Mind Your Mental Health

Flying can be stressful. Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation to stay calm. Listening to music or engaging in a light-hearted movie or book can also help.

Traveling by air doesn’t have to take a toll on your health. By staying hydrated, moving around, practicing good hygiene, and being mindful of your dietary and comfort needs, you can ensure a healthier and more enjoyable flight experience. So, buckle up and get ready to jet-set with wellness as your trusted travel companion!
